Handwritten notes: This is a super citrussy beer, lemon zest and lemon pith. I couldn't read the cockamamie language on the bottle so I assumed (looking at the flames on the bottle and the "Grill" in the title that it would be some sort of smoked offering. Danish and English have little in common so grillol could mean perineum for all I know. Turns out it's a unique take on the IPA, more sweet and lemony than I'm used to. Kinda good. No, actually good. Kinda awesome.

Handwritten notes: This beer is nothing to jump and shout about. It kind of reminds one of a macro company trying to make a “premium” beer to sell to idiots at a higher mark-up. I’m thinking of Budweiser Select, by the way. There’s two kinds of premium in this beer world: one is a meaningless verbalized pause like “uuuuhh...”, and the other means that the product will cost you more money despite being virtually the same thing. (There will be a slight difference in the expensive premium product, though, enough to make you think that extra time and resources were spent on it, thus justifying the mark-up). Some people need to get their Faxe straight. Speaking of Faxe, this beer is a flavour-reduced amber with little or no standout qualities.

Handwritten notes: Another ho-hum German lager. When I first began this project I would have given this high marks, probably too high. Back then, all those weeks ago, German lagers were like shooting stars. I searched for them, and when I saw one, I was dazzled. Now they’re just like regular stars. They’re nice and they’re pretty, but they’re always there, so you kind of take them for granted. This is a crisp and somewhat lemony piece of work with a nice bite. (There, I’ve actually said something substantive about the beer).

Handwritten notes: The thing about stronger beers is that they are usually sickly-sweet. There’s ways to combat the “sickly” part, by bombarding the beer with hops, by bombarding it with other flavour(s), or by making it acidic or sour. This beer, by design or by spoilage, has gone the acidic route (a kind of crab-apple flavour), and I appreciate the uniqueness. Rather than playing down the sweetness, this approach utilizes harmony, what the Chinese would call the yin – yang, bing-bang, ring-rang, rama-lama-ding-dang.

Handwritten notes: I had this can of Faxe Bock sitting around the fridge for a long time. You see, beer tasting to me is a lot like opening presents, or taking STD tests. I like to be surprised. Even if a beer sticks to its script, I like to note little differences that differentiate the brands. I just knew that this would be a plain old Bock. And it was. It has a sherry like sweetness with a back of the throat tang. It’s a good Bock, don’t get me wrong. I’m not sayin’… I’m just sayin’.

Handwritten notes: I'm pretty brain-smart, but I'm not sure I even understand the concept of "light beer". So, you want to lose weight, but you still need to drink the exact same amount of booze. Is that it? The whole idea is ludicrous to me, as is spelling light: "lite"... why not just drink 20% less, but drink good beer? Whew, my brain hurts... this, unlike most other light beers I've come across in my travels, carries it's daddy's flavour profile very well. It might even be a little better in a few ways. The Carlsberg review says that I preferred Carlsberg's taste better as it warmed. This is the exact opposite effect, its peak flavour is when cold, following which the "lite decline" happens quite rapidly.
